We Knew They Hated Us…We Just Didn’t Know They Hated Us This Much

Charlie Kirk’s views were not extreme. He was not arguing wildly fanatic positions. He effectively articulated conservative values to a world that has increasingly moved the other direction. And one thing that was pretty unique to Charlie Kirk is that his conservative values were very informed by his Christian faith.

Are you upset that he advocated for the family?

Are you upset that he advocated for traditional marriage?

Are you upset that he argued against sodomites getting married?

Are you upset that he believed it is wrong to murder a child in the womb?

Are you upset that he believed transgenderism is a delusion? That no amount of surgery could make a man a woman or vice versa?

Are you upset that he believed that Jesus is Savior and Lord over all?

If you are, then you are upset with my beliefs as well and the beliefs of many, many other people in this country.

When I see people celebrate the death of Charlie Kirk, I understand that they would be this way about any outspoken Christian that met the same end. I also understand that, if they knew me, they would dance on my grave as well. And I think a lot of Christians are thinking about this as they watch vile celebrations of this man’s death online.

His Views Were Not Extreme…He Was Hated For Historically Christian Beliefs

What is the historic view held by Christians concerning human sexuality?

Christians that actually believe doctrine have always held to marriage being one man and one woman for life. A person that has sex before marriage is a fornicator. A person that has sex outside of their marriage is an adulterer. And a person that has sex with someone of the same sex is a homosexual and in rebellion against God.

Christians have believed this for thousands of years. And they hated him for proclaiming it.

What is the historic view held by Christians concerning transgenderism?

We have always believed that God created the world and everything in it. And He also created people. And these people are a man or a woman. There isn’t an in betweeny or people with genitals that don’t match the brainitals. God created whole people. And you are either a man or a woman. And we understand that sin has entered the world and some people get confused because of that, but that doesn’t mean they are correct. It means they are sick. If a man wants to turn his male genitals into women’s genitals, he’s not healthy (vaginoplasty).

Christians have historically been anti abortion. Even the Didache, a document that might be the earliest church writing outside of Scripture that we have condemns abortion. Not only does the Scripture speak of life beginning at conception, but the early church was actively anti-abortion from its beginnings. Look at this from the Didache, which was written sometime around 65-80 AD.

Thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not corrupt children, thou shalt not commit fornication, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not use magic arts, thou shalt not use sorcery, thou shalt not destroy a child by abortion, neither shalt thou slay him that is born. (Didache 2.2)

He believed and proclaimed these things because the Scriptures taught them. And many people hated him for it. And now they are celebrating his death because of it.

Christians have believed these things for a very long time. And now, a vocal portion of the population is celebrating his death. What then are we to understand about this?

We Knew They Hated Us…But Not This Much

Christians have understood that this society has a dislike for them. It’s been obvious enough. But it was not this up front. They simply weren’t this bold about it. Until this happened. Had this one shooter been the only thing that happened, it would have been horribly sad. He would have been leaving a family behind whether people celebrated it or not, but the celebrations tell us what the people think. Their reaction to his death says a lot about what they believe.

The reality is that we’ve enjoyed a time of blessing as the church. We’ve grown accustomed to not being bothered. Christianity birthed a country that has been relatively peaceful toward God’s people. And so, we’d forgotten what our Lord told us would happen.

Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. (Matthew 10:21-22 ESV)

That blessed status has been dwindling for a long time, but we could remain at relative ease as long as we kept our mouths shut and stayed in our holy huddles. But Charlie Kirk did not stay in the corner. He spoke of the benefits of marriage, family, having children, fought for life against abortion, and many other things out in the open. And he openly proclaimed the gospel often at these large events at college campuses.

He didn’t always do things the way that I would have done them. He was sometimes a provocateur. But he was hated for publicly proclaiming beliefs that Christians have always held.

He was publicly hated for holding beliefs that I have. And someone shot him for speaking them publicly. Someone took away his wife’s husband and his children’s father because of it.

Understand that Christ is faithful and you are to be faithful as well. Live faithfully though all the world stand against you. We can boldly, faithfully, and peacefully live for the Lord in this wicked age becasue we know this to be true. There is nothing in this world that can happen to us that can take God’s grace and mercy away from us. We can live victoriously because we are His. I believe Charlie Kirk had that, because he spoke of it on occasion. No amount of hate fueled rage can take that away from you.

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39 ESV)

Charlie Kirk is at rest now, with the Savior. Jesus defeated death so that he could live and Charlie Kirk trusted in Him. And that’s something no bullet can take away from you.
