When Justice Tarries The Innocent Suffer

Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the children of man is fully set to do evil. (Ecclesiastes 8:11 ESV)

A few days ago a woman was riding a light rail in Charlotte, minding her business, and was stabbed to death. The man behind her had been arrested at least 14 times, some of those were violent assaults and robbery with a deadly weapon. And somehow, he was allowed to live among the rest of the population.

News outlets refused to cover the story until people on X were outraged and sharing the story. And at this point some news personalities claimed it was racist because the killer was a black man. A more moronic statement could not be imagined.

The reality is that common people understand the world better than those people do. We understand that all of society will fall apart if crime goes unpunished. We understand that innocent people get hurt when judges give light sentences to repeat offenders.

Common people simply understand that what the Bible says about crime, punishment, and what it takes to have a society in which the people are safe. Common people understand that this is true.

Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the children of man is fully set to do evil. (Ecclesiastes 8:11 ESV)

Why The Outrage

The outrage exists for a simple reason. We want to live in a country that is safe. We don’t want to have to escape to the hills and live on an island by ourselves in order to be safe. We want our children to have a country that is flourishing and not rampant with crime. We don’t want our daughters to be brutally murdered by a person on a public transit someday.

The outrage exists because the very people that were supposed to protect this young woman by upholding the law allowed him to walk the streets a free man. They didn’t uphold the law, and so a young woman is dead.

The outrage exists because, when criminals are not punished or punishment lingers lawlessness runs rampant. When lawlessness runs rampant, as it does in many places today, innocent women minding their own business are stabbed by lawless men.

That outrage exists because we’ve seen his rapsheet, we saw the stabbing, and we saw her die on video.

Be A Good Citizen

Christian, be a good citizen of the place you live. Never elect judges that will not punish evil doers. Never elect police chiefs or mayors that will not uphold the law. If that is not a priority for them, then they need to find another line of work.

And I hope you understand the playbook by now. You’re going to get called racist for wanting people like this guy thrown in prison for a long time. And your job is to not care. Your job is to work to create a better life for your daughters, one where people like this guy don’t wind up feeling free to stab an innocent young woman in public.

When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan. (Proverbs 29:2 ESV)

Don’t let wicked politicians and judges ruin your city, county, or state. Let this horrifying image forever move you toward punishing the evildoer.
