I was in a Michael’s store with my wife a few days ago and noticed that they had all their Pride stuff on a 50% off sale. And June’s not even over. It made me chuckle. Everyone knows that most of these department stores are hocking these wares because they think it’ll turn a profit. And the minute it won’t, the rainbow coalition is chucked out the door like a Christmas tree in January. We see it happening in most every store right now.
I am happy that this stuff won’t be everywhere for about 11 months. I won’t have to see so many advertisements that exalt abhorrent relationships. And, as I saw that stuff on sale, I smiled.
But not seeing the celebration of Sodom at every turn and fleeing from Sodom are not the same thing. Let’s talk about Lot.
Lot is an interesting character to me. His life in Sodom and the appeal of it to his family is something that is difficult to wrap my mind around. He was called a righteous man (2 Peter 2:7). But he lived in a place so horrific that it was destroyed in judgment by God (Genesis 19).
Lot’s family suffered because of their proximity to Sodom and their love for the place. Lot had a hard time convincing the family to leave before judgment fell (Genesis 19:14). And Lot’s wife looked back to the place she loved and was turned to a pillar of salt (Genesis 19:26). She wanted what she was leaving behind (Luke 17:26-33). And Genesis 19:30-38 paints a bleak picture of further aftermath. Lot was repeatedly blackout drunk and his daughters hatched a plan to sleep with him and have children.
Sodom left its mark on Lot’s family.
Is Sodom leaving a mark on your family?
Sodom’s Influence
Lot did not protect himself or his family by being a part of that city. He and his family took in so much of the culture that they loved the place and couldn’t imagine leaving. His wife turned back, longing for Sodom and was turned into a pillar of salt.
These were the consequences of lingering long and taking in Sodom.
I wonder what this looks like for us today.
In our society there is a growing godlessness all around us. And this is especially clear with regard to the family.
Less people are marrying. Less people are having children. And more people are choosing lifestyles that are abhorrent to God and outlawed in His Word.
We see the effect of this on the children of our society. Every generation is seeing around double the number of children identifying as lgbtq. Double.
Here is how Gallup worded it. And the image from their site is below the quote.
Overall, each younger generation is about twice as likely as the generation that preceded it to identify as LGBTQ+. More than one in five Gen Z adults, ranging in age from 18 to 26 in 2023, identify as LGBTQ+, as do nearly one in 10 millennials (aged 27 to 42). The percentage drops to less than 5% of Generation X, 2% of baby boomers and 1% of the Silent Generation.

The influence that this rebellion has on America’s children is real and beyond comprehension. That’s what happens when the ethics of Sodom infiltrate every aspect of our society.
When reading this, the first emotion is shock. But the second is a calm realization that the influence society has had on our children has grown worse and worse.
Lot’s family was influenced by the ethics of Sodom. His wife died and his daughters were immoral.
Today the ethics of Sodom influences families through the LGBTQ brigade and very similar things happen. The stats show a growing number of children claiming to be LGBTQ. And within that group there is a growing number of children wanting to mutilate their genitalia and sterilize their selves.
It’s obvious there is a problem.
Protect Your Family
I am not writing this to rail on society’s morals. Though it could be done. I am writing this so that you will protect your family from the morals of our society.
It’s not enough to just hold your breath and wait for June to end. We need to be vigilant.
We need to shield our children from the ungodly as much as we can. And we need to be ready to answer questions that may arise from an advertisement on the road. But even more important is teaching our children what they are supposed to know.
As parents we are to be raising our children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, not of America, the Rainbow Coalition, or anything else. We are to raise our children up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:4 ESV)
It is not Disney’s job to raise your children. They brag about pushing the gender theory that has done so much damage to children today. It is your job to raise your children. And you are to raise them in “the discipline and instruction of the Lord”.
It is not your public school’s job to raise your children. Do you think that teacher with a rainbow flag pin on her shirt won’t try to raise your child up in the discipline and instruction of Sodom? If that is the type of teacher that you are sending your children to, then you need to stop…now! Flee Sodom for the sake of your children! If you have chosen to leave your children in public school, then keep a close eye on what they learn. You don’t want your children anywhere near the ethics of Sodom.
A few years ago I went to one of the school board meetings here in Conway and advocated for a traditional restroom arrangement and a ban on pornographic books. You can read my thoughts on that here. But this quote sums up why parents must keep such a careful eye on what their children learn.
Education is not a neutral ground. The children in an educational system are being taught a morality. The question is not whether but which. Which morality are our children being inundated with from the time they enter school to the time they leave every day? And the answer this question is not an easy one to figure out.
We chose to homeschool our children for this reason. Education is not “neutral ground”. And so it is important to ensure that our children are learning what they should learn in school. And if you are going to send your children to public school, then you must be ready to discuss what has been taught at public school.
If you choose to send your child to private school, then you need to ensure that the things taught there are godly. Depending on the Private School, this may be more difficult than you imagine. Here in Conway, there is at least one good Christian School in the area. I only mention that because I know a number of students and some of the teachers there and know what they are about. But you can’t just assume that every Private School is going to save the day. You still have to raise your children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
And though I think Homeschooling is the safest option in this regard. It is not going to be the best option for everyone.
You must do what is best for your family. But whatever you choose, it must be done in a way that protects your children and your family from the ethics of Sodom.
Concluding Thought Though It’s Probably Obvious
And here is the point of my post, if you haven’t gathered it already. We live in a society that inundates us with a sexual ethic that is an abomination. It’s effects have been incredibly detrimental to our children and families.
Don’t make the mistake Lot did! Protect your children from the ethic of Sodom!
