Hey Fox News, CNN, NBC, ABC, and 5,000 other News Organizations, We’re Not Idiots

So, the big news broke about 5 days ago. Apparently there is more to Jesus’s teachings than we had known about. It’s an ancient forbidden text that changes everything….if you’re not an idiot or just don’t know how we have the text of Scripture that we have today…and Gnosticism. I suppose that last word makes you think that you can fool us. You can’t.

Here is the news story from Fox News.

Here’s the deal. This is the News equivalent of a click-bait article that promises so much and delivers so little. This is absolute nonsense.

Christians have known about this writing for a long time. You can actually read it here. It has been circulated, catalogued documented and critiqued for a while now seeing as how it was discovered in the 1940’s.

It is known to be heretical and has been thought to be that way the entire time we’ve known about it. This is not because it contains some secret about Jesus we don’t want anyone to know, but because it is from a heretical sect of people called Gnostics. You might have heard of the Gnostics from the pulpit from time to time. The beginnings of Gnosticism is thought to be, at least, part of what John is concerned about in 1 John and the beginning of the Gospel Of John. This, however, is from Gnosticism when it was full grown. It is well over 100 years after any of the rest of the New Testament was written.

To scholars this is common knowledge.

To me this article and all the others like it that come out exist because the news folks think that we’re idiots.

I want to end by saying few things to those folks at the news.

1: We Know You Want To Shake Our Faith

Every year, twice a year, you have decided that you would devote your time to attempting to dissuade people from believing in Christ as He is presented in the Scriptures. The problem is that you can’t. So, you stoop to a level of dishonesty that is disgusting around Christmas and Easter.

If I read the Scriptures correctly then God’s elect cannot be dissuaded. But you will impact some people with this garbage and God’s judgment will fall hard on you for it.

2. We Know You Are Consistent…And That’s Putting It Nicely

I can count on reading garbage like this every year. Gnostic writings dating very late are a favorite…every stinking year.

Where is your creativity? Why do you think that this blather is worth reading twice per year?

3. You Are Lying When You Call These Things News

Taking gnostic writings every year and passing them off as something new is lying plain and simple. You could buy books that had this writing in it on the day that the story was published and you’re pushing it off as something new.

“Oooh look! A secret writing that people have been hiding from the Christians!” All the while I could buy a copy of this on Amazon in a collection of gnostic writings years before this unbelievable news came out last week.

4. Put Out Something Of Quality

Americans are tired of the toilet worthy stuff that calls itself news over the past few years. The president’s detractors and backers over the last year have been proof that quality reporting is no longer a priority. This drivel doesn’t help matters any.

This is click-bait pure and simple. I was less disappointed when I clicked on an article promising that a guy using plastic and coins did something brilliant. It turns out that the guy was using a hotel sink to wash his clothes. He could have used those coins to use the hotel washing machine but I’m supposed to be impressed with this guy’s ingenuity.

That is exactly the quality reporting that these articles are.

I Just Want Them To Know That We’re Not Idiots

I just want the folks on the news to know that we see and know that what they’re pushing is garbage. Every 24 hour cycle of news causes us to trust you less.

I had a secret that was kept hidden for a while but now you know it. We’re not as stupid as you think.

That concludes my message to the news folks.
