A Tuesday Review: Bloodlines by John Piper

bloodlines-john-piperRacism exists far more today than most people realize. I come from a small town well known for its racist past and the remnant of it that remains today. But, racism is not limited to places like where I live. Racism exists around us. It seems at times to be quite prevalent in our society.

Over the past year the issue of race has been in the news quite frequently. Yet, it seems that the majority of people in our country do not believe that it exists. That is why I believe that this book is so good and important in our day.

John Piper works to reveal the racism that still exists in our society. He takes a long hard look at the society we live in and attempts to remove the blindness from our eyes with regards to racism. Then he discusses why government intervention and people taking personal responsibility is not enough.

Then, Piper reveals to the reader that the gospel is the only sufficient power for the effort of bringing unity to the immense racial divide that still exists today.

I believe this book is very well written and because Piper begins by looking at his own racism from the past, it causes a person to let their guard down a bit. This is exactly what was needed in this book because, let’s face it, no one seems to think that they are racist. He looks at different sides of the racism debates and looks to Scripture for the answer for the racism that divides.

Here is my opinion about this book. If you are serious about true Christian unity across the lines of race then you will be tremendously helped by reading this book. And, I have good news for you. The author has made it available to read for free. It is a PDF download. Just click on the link and you will be taken to a website where you can download it in PDF format and read it on your phone, computer, tablet, or kindle.
